<image:title>The Talk - Endometrial Receptivity and RIF</image:title>
<image:caption>The tissue of the endometrium grows and develops to become thick and hospitable for an embryo to implant. Following ovulation, there is a transformation of the endometrial cells. The key function of the endometrium is that it needs to support and ongoing pregnancy. Studies have shown that the timing of endometrial receptivity is very important as if implantation occurs too early it can result in miscarriage, and if delayed can cause problems with implantation.</image:caption>

<image:title>The Talk - Your Egg’s Battery Pack - Approximately 50-75 mitochondria are present in a single sperm. The sperm's midpiece contains a smaller amount of mitochondria so that a supply of energy is available for the sperm to perform its function of traveling to and later fertilizing the egg. Let’s be real, the sperm needs energy to make the arduous journey up through the uterus and into the fallopian tubes however the egg needs a much larger energy supply for all the incredible work that’s required to make a baby. Fertilization of the egg to produce an embryo, cell division to produce a blastocyst and all of the energy required after that.</image:title>

<image:caption>Often offering the best chances for those receiving fertility treatments, the IVF process involves collecting eggs from the woman’s ovaries and placing these together with prepared sperm. <image:title>The Talk - Everything You Need To Know About Sperm Donation - IUI</image:title>
<image:caption>Intra-Uterine Insemination is a proccess in which specialised medication (in the form of tablets or self- injections) is used to stimulate the ovaries to produce eggs, and a further injection (HCG) is used to release them at the optimum time. Following this, the sperm sample is prepared in the laboratory one hour prior to the procedure, then drawn into a fine catheter and inserted into the uterus. This maximises the chance of pregnancy occurring, as both the egg(s) and sperm are in the reproductive tract at the same time.</image:caption>

<image:title>The Talk - Trying To Conceive ‘TTC’ - There are mixed reviews about the usefulness of waking temperature for women trying to conceive. It does not give any useful information about intercourse timing, because the temperature does not go up to the higher level until after ovulation.</image:title>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e313f1e4a062e53b5421343/1580855212316-IJQEH32WV2JAM01EHUV9/IMG_3733.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>The Talk - Trying To Conceive ‘TTC’ - The menstrual cycle is beautifully orchestrated with the monthly goal of achieving a pregnancy. The body really is a wonderful thing. The ovarian hormone estrogen rises during the follicular phase of the cycle, peaking around day 14 (of a typical 28 day cycle). This estrogen peak causes a leutenizing hormone (LH) surge which causes ovulation as well as the cervical mucus to change from a sticky, thick mesh-type secretion that previously prevented sperm penetration to a more wetter, transparent and stretchy, highly fertile mucus. ‘Peak day’ is your most fertile day when the cervical mucus opens like a channel for sperm to swim through.</image:title>

<image:title>The Talk - Trying To Conceive ‘TTC’ - How do I check my cervical mucus?</image:title>
<image:caption>Sensation: Sensation is important and often the most difficult to learn. Throughout the day the presence or absence of secretions is recognised by the sensation at the vulva (the vaginal opening), the way the beginning of a period is noticed. The sensation may be a distinct feeling of dryness, of dampness or moistness, stickiness, wetness, slipperiness or lubrication. Appearance: Soft white toilet tissue is used to blot or wipe the vulva. There may be dampness only on the tissue resulting from vaginal moistness. This moistness soaks into the tissue and any cervical secretions appear raised as a blob on the tissue. It may be white, creamy, opaque, or transparent (clear). Secretions observed on underclothing may have dried slightly causing some alteration in characteristics.</image:caption>

<image:title>The Talk - Decreasing male fertility... a myth or a fact? - What causes Sperm DNA Fragmentation? Naturally, sperm DNA fragmentation begins to gradually rise >30 years of age however many other factors can also cause damage. Infection, free radicals, obesity, high fever, elevated testicular temperature (hence the importance of keeping your special bits out of the hot bath), varicocoele, advanced age, poor diet, drug use, cigarette smoking, exposure to environmental and occupational pollutants and increased length of sexual abstinence have all been found to cause sperm DNA fragmentation.</image:title>

<image:title>The Talk - Female Contraception: Does it affect your fertility? - How it all works: This is a plastic T-shaped device that is inserted into the uterus. There are two different options, hormonal or copper IUD's. It is inserted into the uterus by a doctor or a nurse in the clinic and can be kept for up to 3-5 years. The hormonal IUD thickens the cervical mucus, prevents ovulation and thins the lining of the uterus to prevent pregnancy. It is >99% effective and has been shown to reduce period pain making them lighter and/or stopping them altogether.</image:title>

<image:title>The Talk - Female Contraception: Does it affect your fertility? - After insertion, you don’t need to do anything or take anything, and it lasts three years (Skyla) or five years (Mirena).</image:title>
<image:caption>It can cause irregular bleeding and spotting during the first three to six months of use. After that, it may completely suppress bleeding or permit a light period. (And in case you’re wondering—yes, that light period is the result of a real menstrual cycle that includes ovulation and the making of progesterone.) Insertion might be painful. But just to clarify: It’s an in-office procedure that takes a few minutes—it’s not surgery. You’ll probably be instructed to take a painkiller like ibuprofen to ease the cramping, or your doctor may decide to use a local anesthetic</image:caption>

<image:title>The Talk - Female Contraception: Does it affect your fertility? - How it all works: A match-stick like thin rod implant inserted into the skin on your upper arm. After a local anesthetic injection, a small incision is made in the arm and the small implant is inserted, the skin is then closed with steri-strips. It releases a synthetic progestin.. Progestin prevents ovulation. It also thickens the mucus in your cervix, which stops sperm from swimming through to your egg. When sperm can’t meet up with an egg, pregnancy can’t happen. It is >99% effective and one of the most effective types of birth control available.</image:title>

<image:title>The Talk - Female Contraception: Does it affect your fertility? - How it all works: This is a circular plastic ring that is placed into the vagina, continually releasing synthetic estrogen and progesterone hormones into the blood stream to prevent pregnancy. It works similarly to the combined pill and is effective for 21 days before needing replacement. One ring provides contraception for a month, so you don't have to think about it every day.</image:title>

<image:title>The Talk - Polycystic Ovary Syndrome - Diagnosing PCOS The diagnosis and treatment of PCOS remains controversial and with many challenges. Up to 70% of affected women do not know they have PCOS and remain undiagnosed. <image:title>The Talk - Is Stress Stealing Your Fertility? - 'Fight or Flight'</image:title>
<image:caption>What we know about Cortisol and the 'fight or flight response' is that it acts as a protective mechanism when we are in supposed danger. In cases of an imminent threat the body reacts by releasing Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) from the brain which causes the release of adrenaline and cortisol from the adrenals. This in turn causes glucose stores to be made readily available as an energy source. This is beneficial in small doses when for example we have an important presentation at work or a job interview that needs our top attention. Chronic stress i.e prolonged stress, in particular however, can have negative health consequences, adversely affecting so many other functions (the immune, cardiovascular, neuroendocrine, central nervous system and what we care the most about here - REPRODUCTIVE FUNCTION.</image:caption>
